Obama-Media Scandals- Only the Tip of The Iceberg: Wiretapping of US Congress & Using NGOs as Traps for Whistleblowers

Hidden Traps for Government Whistleblowers

Isn’t it ironic? After more than a decade of intensive government witch-hunting directed toward government whistleblowers and truth-tellers- who also happen to be the most valuable sources when it comes to media and journalism, the US media has suddenly become alert and apprehensive to its government’s decade-long snooping, targeting, persecuting, and prosecuting of information-transparency sources. That is, now that their turn has come.

You see, for the past ten years this same media acted either blind, deaf or just simply repulsed when it came to government whistleblowers. In fact, they aided and abetted the government in pursuit of government truth-tellers.  There are too many examples for me to cite; way too many. Recall how L.A. Times collaborated with the government on the AT&T whistleblower’s disclosure and reports. Remember how the New York Times sat on the report exposing the government’s illegal wiretapping of Americans for a year. Think about the complete US media censorship and blackouts on many whistleblower cases. And the list goes on.

I can’t really bring myself to call the latest on Obama-US Media scandals a case of poetic justice. Why? Because the losers in these violations are not limited to members of the press. No. We the people have as much, or even more, to lose with these assaults on freedom of the press - further loss of our rights under the First Amendment.

You see, the same principle applied to the other side of this coin long before these latest revelations and scandals - when the media was among the culprits during all the assaults on government whistleblowers. The losers in those violations were not only the whistleblowers, but the US media and even more importantly, the public at large.

On one hand, we have the latest coverage and revelations such as the following:

The Obama’s Justice Department secretly obtained telephone records for more than 20 separate phone numbers assigned to AP journalists and offices- both cell and home lines, including the AP’s main switchboard

The Obama Justice Department searching and tracking Fox Reporter’s personal e-mails and visits to the State Dept

Possible Obama Justice Department’s tampering with a CBS News investigative reporter’s computer - a reporter who was reporting on the Obama administration’s Fast and Furious gun-walking scandal

The Obama White House & IRS targeting and hunting conservative and opposition groups and dissenters

On the other hand, equally or even more important facts and known issues are still going untouched and un-covered by the US media.

I have continuously emphasized that it takes an entire village of culprits, supporters, obscurers and foot-soldiers to bring a nation and its people to this sorry state. This holds true on the latest scandals depicting the US media as victims and the Obama administration as the sole culprit. The blame for our nation being governed as a police state goes even further than this scandalous, tyrannical and corrupt White House.

I am going to provide a couple of examples on how the real scandals have still remained untouched and uninvestigated.

The Not-So-Mysterious Silence of the US Congress

The spike in government assaults on our liberties after 9/11 was made possible by joint efforts between the executive branch, legislative branch, judiciary branch, and of course the US media. Without full collaboration between these four pillars none of these successful and continuous assaults would have been possible.

Today, the media has found a bit of voice - albeit quite falsetto, as a result of the latest revelations outing them as targets and victims. Years ago credible government insiders and whistleblowers tried to shed light on similar assaults waged on many congressional offices and representatives.

That is right. Just like the now-semi-vocal members of the American press, the communications of several key congressional members were (and still are) being wiretapped, monitored and stored by the US Justice Department and the FBI. Please allow me to show you a documented/ witnessed report made years ago, but completely censored by the US media-despite all attempts:

A solid veteran FBI agent filed his documented complaint on these cases in 2001-2002:

The National Security Whistleblowers Coalition (NSWBC) has obtained a copy of an official complaint filed by a veteran FBI Special Agent, Gilbert Graham, with the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General (DOJ-OIG). SA Graham’s protected disclosures report the violation of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) in conducting electronic surveillance of high-profile U.S. public officials.

Before his retirement in 2002, SA Gilbert Graham worked for the FBI Washington Field Office (WFO) Squad NS-24. One of the main areas of Mr. Graham’s counterintelligence investigations involved espionage activities by Turkish officials and agents in the United States. On April 2, 2002, Graham filed with the DOJ-OIG a classified protected disclosure, which provided a detailed account of FISA violations involving misuse of FISA warrants to engage in domestic surveillance.

In his unclassified report SA Graham states: “It is the complainant’s reasonable belief that the request for ELSUR [electronic surveillance] coverage was a subterfuge to collect evidentiary information concerning public corruption matters.” Graham blew the whistle on this illegal behavior, but the actions were covered up by the Department of Justice and the Attorney General’s office.

Click here to read the unclassified version of SA Graham’s Official Report.

I can corroborate several cases involved in this report - first hand and under oath. If you revisit my State Secrets Privilege Gallery, you will see pictures of several key elected officials. I can testify to the fact that every single member was being illegally monitored by the DOJ-FBI, and that all information obtained from those illegal wiretaps was being saved and used ‘as needed’ by the executive branch.

This is one of many ways for a tyrannical government to establish an extended guardian angels network. What better way to overcome an obstacle called ‘separation of powers’? The executive branch can illegally compile dirt-filled data on any congressional member so that it can be used when it is needed. And with this how can anyone believe that the separation of powers any longer exists as a current mechanism in place in governing the American people? As an organization for National Security Whistleblowers, can you imagine us sending our whistleblowers to congressional offices to disclose and report government wrongdoing? I didn’t think so.

Despite all attempts by our whistleblower organization and related advocates the US media dared not provide coverage for this to-date-untold scandal. Well, now it is their turn - as targets

The US Establishment NGOs: The Shields for Imperial Presidency

Let’s begin by watching a highly illustrative example extensively reported by Boiling Frogs Post two years ago on a network of executive branch guardian angels operating behind the scenes:

Two years ago, Obama, the worst president in US history on whistleblowers and truth-telling, an awful president when it comes to government secrecy, the president who brought us the NDAA, and a man in the midst (and center of) of recent scandals involving the government’s illegal spying on media and using the IRS’ hit-men against opposition and political dissenters, yeah, this same Obama, this same president, was declared and given an award as the Most Transparent and Pro-Whistleblowers President in US History. The award was given in secrecy-behind closed doors.

The so-called government watch-dog and transparency organizations who presented this worst president in history on transparency have been advertising themselves as an outlet for government whistleblowers to go to and disclose government wrongdoing: Project on Government Oversight (POGO), OMB Watch , along with, catch this irony: the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press!!

These organizations funded by millions of dollars from corporate sugar-daddies such as George Soros, or establishment billionaires such as the Rockefellers, all of whom with a mission to support and protect tyrannical presidents such as Obama, have set themselves up as traps to capture to-be whistleblowers and contain the would-be damage to the tyranny.

Can you imagine government whistleblowers naïve enough to make their way into these traps? Unfortunately some still do.

The latest revelations and scandals on how the tyrannical executive branch taps, controls and contains the media outlets are only the tip of the iceberg. The control and trap mechanism of the executive branch goes much further and much deeper than these scandals. This mechanism has entrapped and neutered key members of the United States House and Senate. And this exact same mechanism has established control valves called NGOs along the arteries of our governing system.

It is way past time to expose how the executive branch wiretaps, monitors and blackmails members of the US congress on a regular basis. It is way past time to expose the tyrannical presidents’ guardian angels set up as NGOs to entrap whistleblowers, block their reports, and act as the culprit establishments’ gatekeepers. Isn’t it way past time to take out this monstrosity of a government and its tyrannical roots? Is it or isn’t it?

Very discouraging to think about. As mainstream media provides a hint of awareness of how government has the capability to grab evidence as it sees fit and whenever it wants such as the case of AP and Fox News…its also apparent they use this tool in so many other ways.

J Edgar Hoover would be very proud of the amount of dirt the executive branch must have on anyone with any say or power?

How much longer can this country survive with this amount of blackmail?

  3. tonywicher says:

It’s time to take action, Sibel. High time. I think your point concerning blackmail of Congress by the administration is very useful for this fight, so here is what I am going to do right now: I have been in contact with my Congressman, Paul Cook, who happens to be a Republican and a retired Marine Colonel. I have been sending him a lot of material about Benghazi. He has responded with more than a form letter showing that he has looked at it and takes it seriously. I am going to email him on his congress.gov website with this link. He seems an honorable man and I hope he will find your insights very useful. I think everyone here at BFP should make every effort to reach out to their Congress people with such information as this. The important thing is to get a response and establish an ongoing relationship. It may take some time and patience, and some are impossibly corrupt, but I would say most are not, just misinformed or uninformed, same as most of the rest of the population. They believe what they see on television, and even worse is that the CIA regularly drops by their offices and gives them false “inside information” that makes them think they know more than you do. We need to break through this screen of propaganda a lies, and the only way to do it is to establish a real, human relationship between you. This action of reaching out, not only to Congress people but to state and local legislators, and to church school and community leaders as well is the only way to make this revolution. Each of us must take this responsibility to lead, to make this a government of, by and for the people again.

Following up on tonywicher’s response, I’ve been thinking along very similar lines. Just as Corporations & Oligarchs have gained the system by corrupting political parties, might our “regaining” it be best approached through the same conduit? It’s already proven how easily influenced Congress is, and that the use of Lobbyists is key to that end. (note: I capitalize Lobbyists because they are indeed a force to be reckoned with)

So how about Citizen Lobbyists flooding Congressional offices, DC restaurants, etc., outnumbering, as it were, the Professional Lobbyists. This could follow the model of 350.org, while keeping its focus exclusively on Congress. I agree with Mr. Wicher’s continuation to also act within local governments, churches & organizations. That grass-roots organization is vital indeed.

My emphasis on the national level is made in hopes that changes from the top down will gain publicity, if only at first on the internet, and give aid to those brave few – headed chiefly by Bernie Sanders – in undoing the myriad of “laws” that are ripping our Consitution & society to shreds.
