Empire, Power, and People with Andrew Gavin Marshall- Episode 85

World War Crazy

EPPSo, is the West going to strike Syria? What will Russia and China do? Are we headed for World War III? Is this really where humanity has come to? If this is the case, then our main cultural focus over the past few days says a great deal about our society: the world rapidly moves toward chaos, but our focus is on Miley Cyrus' twerking performance. It's about priorities, after all!

    Dear Andrew,

Your grief is palpable in this podcast. I share your feelings. Thank you for your poem–it is an appropriate antidote to our current pathological reality. Would you be willing to include a copy of the text? I would like to have a copy.

Thank you for all that you do.

  2. “I don’t understand why the world is in open revolt” admits AGMarshall. But understand is precisely what we expect from political commentators. Not hand-wringing, not display of noble sentiments and black despair over the fallen world but understanding. We went through all this many times. There is nothing to be surprised about. Yugoslavia, Iraq, terror in Russia, Afghanistan, Libya, Egypt, Syria. Unbelievable would be if things had turned out the other way: our imperialists had become peaceful lambs, the military-industrial complex produced toys and kitchenware for formerly Third World countries, corporations were handed over to workers, and mankind enjoyed eternal peace and prosperity. Neither hand-wringing nor impotent curses, least of all, the anarchist sermons which AGMarshall has managed to smuggle even in this funeral oration can change the tiniest bit in the plans of the western empire, in the will of its rulers. Power can be challenged only by power.

  3. Correction: “I don’t understand why the world is NOT in open revolt” admits AGMarshall
