The Danger of Cops in Schools

Just what we don’t need: more gun-toting, taser-wielding cops in government-run schools that bear an uncomfortable resemblance to prisons. Microcosms of the police state, America’s public schools already contain almost every aspect of the militarized, intolerant, senseless, overcriminalized, legalistic, surveillance-riddled, totalitarian landscape that plagues those of us on the “outside.” Now President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions want to double down on these totalitarian echo chambers. Sessions has announced that the Justice Department will provide funding for schools that want to hire more resource officers. The White House has also hinted that it may repeal “Rethink School Discipline” policies, heralding a return to zero tolerance policies that treat children like suspects and criminals, especially within the public schools. As for Trump, he wants to “harden” the schools. What exactly does hardening the schools entail? More strident zero tolerance policies, greater numbers of school cops, and all the trappings of a prison complex.

  1. Jeff Martin says:

Just a couple of rhetorical questions: Why do cops shave their heads? Why do the powers that be want a docile and compliant citizenry?

Think about it. When these kids get into college, there are talent scouts for the NSA and CIA there to select students for work in which these selected students will further abuse American’s civil rights and civil liberties.

It’s plain to me that this government, we now have, is not interested in allowing to pursue life, liberty, and happiness. Rather, this government sees us as animals to exploit, abuse, and intimidate throughout our lives. “Mr. Franklin, what government have you given us? Reply: “A republic, if you can keep it.”

    I think we’ve lost it.
