Processing Distortion: “Lara Logan Isn’t the Only Problem at 60 Minutes”

Peter B. Collins offers Critical Analysis

As CBS News suspends chief foreign correspondent Lara Logan for the recent embarrassing and misleading report about Benghazi, Collins comments and says that Logan should be fired, in part for her criticism of the late Michael Hastings for his coverage of Gen. McCrystal, which Logan said was out of bounds. Collins plays segments from Leslie Stahl's recent 60 Minutes report on Guantanamo, where she displayed deep ignorance of Shaker Aamer--the last British prisoner at Gitmo--when Aamer shouted comments from his cell as Stahl toured the block with Col. John Bogdan. Collins is also sharply critical of the way Stahl covered the hunger strikes and force feeding, and that she asserted that 100 men who have been released returned to the fight--without offering any proof or details. This episode takes a critical look at corporate media, its errors of omission and commission.

Obama-Media Scandals- Only the Tip of The Iceberg: Wiretapping of US Congress & Using NGOs as Traps for Whistleblowers

Hidden Traps for Government Whistleblowers

Isn’t it ironic? After more than a decade of intensive government witch-hunting directed toward government whistleblowers and truth-tellers- who also happen to be the most valuable sources when it comes to media and journalism, the US media has suddenly become alert and apprehensive to its government’s decade-long snooping, targeting, persecuting, and prosecuting of information-transparency sources. That is, now that their turn has come. [Read more...]

Podcast Show #104: Falling Dominos in the Horn of Africa

The Boiling Frogs Show Presents Pepe Escobar

BFP Podcast Logo

Pepe Escobar, one of our favorite globe-trotting journalists and offshore voices, joins us for this fascinating analysis of the French war in Mali, the bloody hostage scene in Algeria, and blowback from the “liberation” of Libya. In this wide-ranging discussion, we start with the American sideshow on Benghazi, while no one talks about the blowback from the ouster of Qaddaffi and the mercenaries and rebels who got rearmed and cashed up in the Libyan adventure.

Mr. Escobar breaks down the various armed factions and some of the leaders in Mali, details the hostage showdown at the gas facility in Algeria, and tells us that the arms and money for the rebels are coming from Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Escobar has travelled in this region, and offers colorful descriptions of the people and places. We talk about America’s new Africom command post, and the role of 3,500 US troops who were sent to Africa recently. He gives us a sense of France’s interest in the uranium of Niger and the gold in Mali, which are likely to conflict with US intentions. Escobar also touches on China’s expanding, but non-military, presence in Africa.
