Processing Distortion with Peter B. Collins: Corporate Media’s Clear Pro-Israel Bias

Peter B. Collins Presents Peter Hart from FAIR

In the opening days of Israel’s new war on Gaza and Hamas, the US media displays its bias almost daily. Peter Hart notes how ABC’s Diane Sawyer misidentified a grieving Palestinian family as Israeli; that Bob Schieffer of CBS commented on the fear felt by Israelis, with no concern expressed for Palestinians who’ve actually died; and that the reporting is riddled with imbalance regarding the value of the life of an Israeli versus the life of a Palestinian. Corporate outlets generally don’t challenge the shifting pretexts for the war that Israel has advanced: from the manipulated story of the 3 missing teenagers, to retaliation for Hamas rocket attacks, and recently the reported failure of Hamas to join the cease fire called by Egypt and Israel. Hart also talks about his recent study of the guests who appear on prime time cable news shows.

*Peter Hart is the activism director at FAIR. He writes for FAIR's magazine Extra! and is also a co-host and producer of FAIR's syndicated radio show CounterSpin. He is the author of The Oh Really? Factor: Unspinning Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly.

De-Manufacturing Consent- Psychiatry’s “Useful Fictions” & the Pathologizing of Dissent

Guillermo Jimenez Presents Dr. Bruce Levine

On this edition of De-Manufacturing Consent Guillermo is joined by Dr. Bruce Levine, a practicing clinical psychologist and author of the book Get Up, Stand Up: Uniting Populists, Energizing the Defeated, and Battling the Corporate Elite. We discuss how elites in Psychiatry and Psychology have used the "chemical imbalance fiction" for what they consider to be the "greater good," and have kept the truth about mental illnesses like depression away from the public, while at the same time making billions for Big Pharma.

We discuss "oppositional defiant disorder" (ODD), and how anti-authoritarianism has been pathologized and young rebellious children are being forced to take antipsychotic medication. We also touch on the relationship between psychiatry, media, and politics, and how invented pathologies and prescription drugs can be used to target populations as social modes of control.

Empire, Power, and People with Andrew Gavin Marshall- Episode 41

Empire, Economics, and Dynastic Power

EPPLooking at the world today, we see a situation of great turmoil and challenge: a global economic crisis getting deeper and more severe, manifested as a class war against the population waged by the powerful; we see increased moves toward war in the Middle East, against Syria and Iran; a drug war which has killed tens of thousands of Mexicans, hundreds of thousands of Colombians, and untold numbers of Afghans. Globalizations is not simply about iPods and McDonald's, but cocaine and opium. And of course, all the money ends up in the banks, largely owned by the global banking dynasties, such as the Rockefellers and Rothschilds.

Acknowledging dynastic power in the modern world is a difficult task, because we have to chart an unknown course, away from the denial of dynastic power, but also to steer clear of the presumption of omnipotence accredited by many fringe elements. Like most things, the truth is in the grey area.
