De-Manufacturing Consent with Guillermo Jimenez- Does Your Vote Really Matter?

Guillermo Jimenez Presents Sheldon Richman

On this edition of De-Manufacturing Consent Guillermo welcomes back Sheldon Richman, senior fellow at the Center for a Stateless Society, and author of the blog Free Association. With the 2016 presidential campaign season already underway, we discuss the issue of voting. Is it a duty or a right? President Obama believes voting should be mandatory in the United States, and Sheldon explains what such a law would actually look like in practice, and why it is a horrible idea.

Mandatory or not, does your vote really count? Is there any candidate out there worth voting for? Besides elections, are there issues, initiatives, or referendums worth supporting through the ballot box? And does any of it really make a difference, or do these good intentions actually serve to legitimize an inherently corrupt system?

The EyeOpener Report- What Anti-War Movement? Left/Right Politics & the War Agenda

As we examined last week on The EyeOpener Report, the fraudulent left/right political divide has been used to keep the people divided against each other even as it is used to dupe the public into supporting the very same political agenda through puppet administration after puppet administration. Perhaps nowhere is this process of divide and rule quite so transparent as it is in the so-called "anti-war" movement of the last decade.

Find out about the Left-Right politics and the so-called "anti-war" movement of the last decade in this week's edition of the Boiling Frogs Post EyeOpener Report with James Corbett.

The EyeOpener Report- Divide & Conquer: Politics and the Left/Right Fraud

From education to the environment, business to banking, housing to health care, it seems that there is no issue in the world that the industrialized western democracies cannot reduce to a simplistic paradigm of “liberal” vs “conservative.” In fact, this point has been so hardwired into the modern political system that it has been distilled into childlike shorthand: political positions are “left” or “right,” “blue” or “red.” These convenient, color-coded political choices infantilize the political process, making the public little more than spectators at a sporting event, rooting for one team or another without even having to understand the issues being debated. Nowhere has this process of simplification become so refined as it has in the United States of America, sometimes laughingly referred to as the “leaders of the free world.”

Find out about the Left-Right politics- the inane lowest-common-denominator reduction of all political thought has taken its toll on the public in the United States of America in this week's edition of the Boiling Frogs Post EyeOpener Report with James Corbett.

America’s Continuity of Government Plan: The Cronyism of the Revolving Door

Eliminate the Revolving Door & Stop “Deifying” Military

All the media bluster and folly surrounding whistleblower Edward Snowden is detracting from critical thinking that Americans must engage in and act upon. At this moment, benefits from the Snowden data dump  appear to be accruing to the US government and its assorted defense related corporate interests. If the American national security apparatus is to be checked and balanced, structural changes must take place. Substance must be ascendant, form can come later.

The US Constitution and the Bill of Rights have been bypassed by the Cronyism of the Revolving Door. It is an inept practice hardly useful for designing comprehensive national security strategies, policies, operations or tactics (SOCOM stands out though) that protect the American people. The Absurdity of Party Politics

EPPA major Republican party politician recently stated that they had to stop being "the stupid party," and begin operating more in reality. But party politics is intended to obfuscate reality, to co-opt and largely, to distract and entertain through a theatre of the absurd. What is the effect and function of party politics? How does this divide and distract people, and what are the repercussions of participating in party politics?

While Left and Right Fight- Power Wins

“The insouciance of the American population is its downfall.”

My experience with the American left and right leads to the conclusion that the left sees private power as the source of oppression and government as the countervailing and rectifying power, while the right sees government as the source of oppression and a free and unregulated private sector as the countervailing and rectifying power. Both are concerned with restraining the power to oppress, but they take opposite positions on the source of the oppressive power and remedy.

The right is correct that government power is the problem, and the left is correct that private power is the problem. Therefore, whether power is located within the government or private sectors cannot reduce, constrain, or minimize power. [Read more...]

The Reality Principle -Episode 9

“Rejecting Compromise, Committing to Action” Presenting David Swanson

This week Eric has the pleasure of having an in-depth conversation with blogger, author, and activist David Swanson. David and Eric discuss the mythology of the fiscal cliff and the propaganda and lies of both major parties. Additionally, they examine the delusions and self-deception of many Americans who, consciously or unconsciously, legitimize and perpetuate the status quo. Eric and David also critique American militarism and imperialism, particularly those who remain willfully ignorant as to what our "elected" leaders are doing in our name. One of the major themes of the conversation is how to organize resistance to all these forces; how to become leaders of a real movement for change that can exist outside the dominant two-party paradigm.

Empire, Power, and People with Andrew Gavin Marshall- Episode 45

The Sociopathic Society

EPPA couple of years ago, a Canadian serial killer was transferred to a medium-security prison where he was given a cell mate. Soon after, he killed the cell mate, and when questioned about why, he simply said, "I'm a sociopath!" Now imagine what society would look like if we elected people like this. The problem is, we don't have to imagine that, because, as disturbing as it may sound, that is exactly the type of society we live in: one which is built upon sociopathic ideas, with sociopathic institutions, and promotes sociopathic behavior: manipulation, lies, cheating, destruction, stealing, killing and doing anything to get power, lacking compassion and empathy, removing emotional obstacles to promotional objectives.

If we elect serial killers to office, how can we be surprised when he kills masses of people? Clinton's Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, when questioned about the US sanctions on Iraq having killed over half a million children, simply replied, "It was worth it." Not so very different from the serial killer's reply: "I'm a sociopath... I'm not going to stop!"

‘The Real News’ vs. The Real Truth

From Omission to Non-Denial Denials

On November 5 I published a piece on David Swanson’s well-made case in an interview on voting independent, with a few deservedly strong words on ‘The Real News’ sharing common characteristics with way-too-many pseudo or semi-alternative news outlets backed by the same-alphabet-soup of foundation backers and tainted by the same-divisive & destructive-partisanship. You can watch the interview clip in question and read my commentary here.

This morning I received a rant-full and long-winded e-mail from Mr. Paul Jay- the founder and host of this not very real ‘Real News’ network- filled with lawsuit threats against me, poorly-argued points, omitted facts, non-denial denials, and a few plain old lies. Per his request and happily I just posted his e-mail response in the comment section of my commentary post here. Okay, now I want to further highlight and elaborate on my factual statements and assessment of Mr. Jay and his enterprise ironically (and uncreatively) called ‘The Real News.’ In order to do this I am going to take one point at a time, put each in context, provide real examples and parallels, and let you assess each one’s validity. Empire, Power, and People with Andrew Gavin Marshall- Episode 44

Mass Delusion & Obama's Election

EPPObama's re-election was a wonderful example of how the public relations and advertising industries created what Walter Lippmann referred to as the "bewildered herd" of "ignorant and meddlesome outsiders" who need to have their consent engineered, so that they may be the "interested spectators of action." It's a sign of a successful marketing campaign ("election") when everyone is talking about Big Bird, but no one knows what the NDAA is. This episode looks at what the re-election of Barack Obama actually means, and why those who celebrated his victory are engaging in little more than mass delusion. Posterity will have little good to say of a culture that celebrated the murder of one terrorist, and a year later, celebrated the election of another, far greater terrorist.

David Swanson on ‘Voting Independent’ & A Few Words on the Real but Unknown History of the Not So Real ‘Real News’

insanityI just finished watching an excellent interview given by David Swanson on the importance of voting independent and the futility of voting between two evils every four years. Let me qualify my qualification of the interview as “excellent”: the interviewee. David Swanson was very good, articulate, and right on with his points. That constitutes 50% of the interview. The interviewer, on the other hand, was anything but objective, was antagonistic, and a propagandist who lacked logic and the ability to articulate even a very illogical point of view.

I am going to give you the link to this interview, but before I do that I want to go on record with a few words on ‘The Real News’ - its beginning, and its founder & host Paul Jay. [Read more...]

Vote Independent or Stay Home

“Voting for Obama or Romney is like choosing between death by hanging or firing squad. Either way you're dead.”

independentVoting for Obama or Romney is like choosing between death by hanging or firing squad. Either way you're dead.

The same goes for choosing Republicans or Democrats. Each party replicates the other. On issues mattering most, not a dime's worth of difference separates them.

They're pro-corporate, pro-war, pro-Israel, anti-populist, anti-civil and human rights, and anti all values real democratic societies cherish.

Post-November 6, nothing will change. Duopoly power assures harsher times ahead. Expect direct and proxy imperial wars to continue. New ones will be launched. War on terror/existential threat deception will justify them. [Read more...]

Whistleblowing Ain’t No ‘Fair Game’

Pinpointing “Fairytale Whistleblowers”

fairytaleFor the last ten years, in over a hundred interviews, I’ve been asked to talk about whistleblowing and whistleblowers. On more than one occasion I’ve been asked to define the term whistleblower. I have recounted dozens of government whistleblower cases and stories during many interviews and speeches. What I have not done, at least until now, is to provide people with ways to tell real government whistleblowers from phony ones, or warn them about the existence of those who use the ‘whistleblower’ title for nefarious purposes. I haven’t talked about heavily promoted ‘fairytale whistleblowers’, set as a trap by the exact same establishment the supposed fairytale whistleblowers supposedly blew the whistle on - the government

And why haven’t I done this before? As the saying goes ‘choose your enemies carefully’. How about ‘there’s so little time and so much to fight against’? Well, I’m sure you have heard various versions of those sayings and others, and you get my meaning, thus the reason I chose to remain fairly quiet on this important aspect of whistleblowing and whistleblowers.

It will take far more than one brief article/commentary to discuss and analyze the cases of ‘fairytale whistleblowers’ and the purpose of popping up and propping up those select whistleblowers with tremendous help and participation from the media-publishers-Hollywood, corporate-owned and government-managed NGOs. That’s right: it takes the entire village of establishment participants to create these fairytale whistleblowers, promote and market them, and succeed in selling them to the public as genuine. Thus, for the purpose of this warm-up, introduction, I am going to limit myself to a few macro points and examples.

The real whistleblower armed with information really dangerous to the establishment-government ends up with one or more of the following outcomes and consequences: mysterious death, prison, prosecution, persecution, gag order-blackmail- threats (including their family members), financial destruction, scandalization, censure, marginalization by the media-publishers…

The fairytale whistleblower trap meets the exact opposite end: no ‘real’ threat of prosecution or imprisonment, no ‘real’ censorship-gag order, fame, enormous financial gain-reward, wide media coverage, hero-status granted by the media, mega dollars book and movie deal, position with big-name corporate-foundation owned and government-ruled NGOs, future high-dollar government contracts and positions, clear and present partisan status…

Okay, now I am going to move from the above general ground rules to a bit more specific distinction between real whistleblowers versus fairytale whistleblower traps. [Read more...]

It’s Time to Talk about Neo-Progressivism

Don’t Call ‘Me’ A Progressive If …

clownBy now many of you know where ‘I’ stand when it comes to titles, labels, and categories that are broadly and many times ignorantly painted all over people or viewpoints. I’ve been over this before; how I’ve been labeled and attacked as Anti-Semite and Anti-Muslim, Sexist and Feminist, Democrat and Republican …one time or another, sometimes even simultaneously. What is it with all these confusing labels floating around and being used right and left? Seriously?! Neocon. Neoliberal. Repug. Bleeding-Heart Liberal. You name it!

Anyhow, today I am going to talk about another very confusing label-adjective that is being used too often, and most often too broadly, confusedly and inaccurately. The fashionable adjective is ‘progressive;’ being progressive. What does it really mean to be progressive? Once upon a time I was sure I knew what it meant. Then came a time when I was not sure what it was. And now, I don’t have a clue what it means to be a progressive. I’ll go even further and say, if it means what many people claim it does, and use it as, then, I consider it an adjective far from flattery.

Sure. You can look it up in any dictionary and give progressive a common definition. Progressive: Favoring or advocating change, improvement, or reform; employing or advocating more enlightened ideas… Or find the popular definition of progressivism as a political attitude favoring or advocating changes or reform through governmental action. If you were to stop here, stay within this once-upon-a-time definition and usage frame, and then call me a progressive, I’d nod and say ‘thank you.’ However life is never that simple. And in this case the overly popular progressive does not mean what it used to mean, and is not used as it once was.

Allow me to put it in perspective. I am going to use real-life context and experiences; the real life being my life, and the experiences coming directly from me and my surroundings: [Read more...]
