Newsbud Report with Peter B. Collins- Episode #2

Did we just finish Mainstream Media Malpractice Week? We examine the media’s premature projection of Hillary Clinton as Democratic nominee. We report on the FBI’s expanding use of paid informants in “domestic terrorism” cases, like the recent convictions in Minneapolis; and the FBI’s push for expanded powers to monitor internet activity. We examine NY Gov. Cuomo’s order to punish supporters of boycotts of Israel, and journalist Max Blumenthal comments in our interview. In our Newsbud Exclusive, Prof. Filip Kovacevic reports on Russia’s plan to counter NATO expansion with its Alliance of Neutral States. We also cover Brazil’s deepening crisis, and the US role in the 2009 coup in Honduras.

Processing Distortion with Peter B. Collins: Hastert Coverup Cemented in Place

Peter B. Collins presents Sibel Edmonds

In the last week of April, the judge who sentenced former GOP Speaker Dennis Hastert to 15 months in jail described him accurately as a “serial child molester” while, perhaps unwittingly, he cemented in place the coverup of Hastert’s serious crimes (not limited to pedophilia) as a Congressman and Speaker. Sibel Edmonds has accurately, and courageously, exposed much more of the sordid history of Hastert; in over 9 months, no other media outlet we’re aware of has even raised the most obvious question: did Hastert stop molesting boys when he went to Washington? Edmonds knows that the FBI and CIA videotaped many of his sexual adventures, strong evidence that Hastert’s conviction for lying about structured transactions is the most serious attempt at a “limited hangout” coverup since Nixon. So far, it’s holding nicely for its creators.

*Sibel Edmonds is found and publisher of BoilingFrogsPost. Her most recent book, a novel called The Lone Gladio, includes some scenes based on the real Dennis Hastert Story. The complete archive of Hastert coverage is here.

Processing Distortion with Peter B. Collins: US Role in Unfolding Coup in Brazil?

Peter B. Collins presents Journalist Pepe Escobar

Following the dramatic April 17 vote to impeach Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff, Pepe Escobar unpacks the layers of corruption in his native country and suspects an American role in the effort to take down the pro-workers PT party based on NSA surveillance of the state oil firm, Petrobras, and of Rousseff personally. We talk about the “Car Wash” corruption scandal that touches most elected officials, the brazen effort to remove a president who has not been charged with a “crime of responsibility” as required by law, and the scheming of the vice president, Michel Temer, who will serve as acting president if the Senate sustains the impeachment attempt.

*Pepe Escobar is a globetrotting reporter who writes for RT, Sputnik and TomDispatch. He is the author of Empire of Chaos and several other books.

Processing Distortion with Peter B. Collins: The Israeli Propaganda Machine

Peter B. Collins presents Journalist Max Blumenthal

Framed around a new documentary that exposes the sophisticated Israeli message machine, and the influence of American media manipulator Frank Luntz in shaping perceptions of Israel as a victim, Max Blumenthal is candid, and critical. Blumenthal is one of many contributors to this important film. We also discuss the recent execution of a wounded, disabled Palestinian suspect by an Israeli medic, and how Netanyahu initially misjudged the Israeli public’s reaction. We talk about the Brooklyn debate between candidates Clinton and Sanders, and Blumenthal has strong remarks about each. And, he states that this is the first time he’s been asked about the attempted smears Blumenthal has been targeted for by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach and other allies of Israel.

*Max Blumenthal is a journalist, and author of Goliath and The 51-Day War. Get more information on the documentary mentioned, The Occupation of the American Mind here.

Processing Distortion with Peter B. Collins: New NSA Whistleblower Fears for Her Life

Peter B. Collins presents Karen Stewart

After 28 years at the National Security Agency, Karen Stewart was fired in 2010 and continues to face retaliation that she fears will lead to her death. After filing a complaint with the Inspector General in 2006 about a workplace dispute, Stewart endured harassment, home invasions and false claims that she was delusional and paranoid; her security clearance was pulled, then she was terminated with a gag order. In 2015, she discovered that the man who broke into her house was a high-level NSA manager, and payback resumed with obvious 24/7 team surveillance, just like they do on TV. Her most alarming claim is that she is being targeted with Directed Energy Weapons beamed in from nearby homes, and fears that ongoing exposure will lead to cancer or seizures that could be fatal.

*Karen Stewart joined the NSA in 1982, and enjoyed positive job ratings and promotions to GS-12 before her report to the Inspector General. She lives near Tallhassee, Florida and is pursuing a new career as an artist.

Following the Money to War Profiteers

Peter B. Collins presents Christian Sorensen

In this Newsbud special, BFP contributor Christian Sorensen and Sibel Edmonds talk about Sorensen’s latest breakdown of Pentagon spending, a regular feature here. Sorensen makes a compelling argument that terrorism has replaced the cold war as the driver of our military machine and the huge profits it throws off to corporate contractors. Sorensen displays an encyclopedic knowledge of DoD outlays, informed by the wasteful spending he observed while serving in the Air Force. After reviewing some details from his February report, we discuss the need for independent media that won’t take advertising from the military industrial complex, in order to provide uncompromised coverage of the Pentagon and other powerful arms of the government.

*Christian Sorensen is an independent writer and Arabic translator. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 2007-2011. The profligate waste he witnessed during his time in uniform forced him to reassess his support for U.S. Empire. Mr. Sorensen holds advanced degrees in Translation Studies and International Relations. His writings focus on the Israel-Palestine conflict and U.S. imperialism. Read his latest report here.

Processing Distortion with Peter B. Collins: Tor Was Built, Then Hacked by Pentagon

Peter B. Collins presents: Journalist Yasha Levine

Last fall, we learned that one branch of the Navy paid Carnegie-Mellon University researchers to hack into the “onion routing” encryption system called Tor, which was spawned by a different branch of the Navy, the Naval Research Laboratory. The FBI used the hack to penetrate the Dark Web and bust Silk Road 2.0, and Levine asserts that Tor is falsely advertised as impenetrable, and promoted by Ed Snowden. Laura Poitras and Glenn Greenwald. The judge in the Silk Road 2.0 case wrote that Tor users “are taking a gamble on any real expectation of privacy”. Levine also offers his views on the encryption battle between Apple and the FBI, and updates us on his progress on his new book.

*Yasha Levine is an investigative reporter for Pando.com. Read his latest Tor article here . His new book, Surveillance Valley, is due in 2017.

Peter B. Collins Presents Attorney/Rancher Todd Macfarlane

In this follow-up to our recent interview, attorney, rancher and activist Todd Macfarlane provides details of the final days of the standoff in Oregon, and explains some of the history of western ranchers vs. government disputes over grazing rights on public lands. He shares eyewitness accounts of the death of LaVoy Finicum at the January 26 roadblock, and speculates about possible government infiltrators, like “Mark McConnell” who insisted on driving Ammon Bundy into the roadblock but was not arrested. We talk about many aspects of the final days of the occupation, and the arrest of Cliven Bundy before Macfarlane explains important history of rancher disputes over grazing rights and fees.

Processing Distortion with Peter B. Collins: The Real Story of Oregon Standoff

Peter B. Collins Presents Attorney Todd Macfarlane

Following his written commentary on the month-long occupation of a remote wildlife refuge near Burns, Oregon, Todd Macfarlane gives a detailed account of the history of rancher-government disputes, the Cliven Bundy confrontation in Nevada in 2014, and the occupation of Malheur by Bundy’s sons and others. Macfarlane spent 2 days there—unarmed—and is openly critical of Pete Santilli and other hotheads at the scene. He describes the over-reaction by political leaders and media, culminating in the roadblock January 26 where the group’s unofficial spokesman, LaVoy Finicum was killed. He represents the Finicum family, and is seeking answers to many important questions about the incident.

*Todd Macfarlane is an attorney, rancher, writer and political activist. He and his family own and operate the Turkey Track Ranch, near the small town of Kanosh, Utah. Todd is a veteran from earlier dust-ups in the sagebrush rebellion, having represented Mary Bullock and other ranchers in long-standing struggles with the federal government. Read his article here

NEWSBUD- Reviving Ethical Investigative Journalism with Bill Conroy, Peter B. Collins & Sibel Edmonds

How and Why Mainstream & Pseudo-Alternative Media Funders and Their Puppetry Editors Kill Stories that Matter

Welcome to our second podcast episode, announcing our new media project- NEWSBUD.COM. In this podcast episode Peter B. Collins, investigative journalist extraordinaire Bill Conroy and I discuss the importance of agenda-free and independent investigative journalism, how the current media funders and puppetry editors censor and kill stories that matter, and the urgency to make Newsbud- 100% independent & People Funded, a reality. Bill Conroy will be leading the investigative reporting at Newsbud, and he has more than 20 years of experience covering the drug war, corruption in government and law enforcement, and national security matters.

Conroy talks about his work with Gary Webb, the Pulitzer winner who exposed the 1980’s CIA cocaine pipeline in the San Jose Mercury News and was viciously attacked by critics in government and media competitors. Conroy describes his own challenges in getting his hard-hitting stories published, as his employers knuckled under to pressure from advertisers and political figures. He makes the case for public funding of Newsbud, to insure against interference and censorship. For everyone who has been dreaming of a major independent media platform that’s free from corporate advertisements, partisan agendas, and a dependency on the ultra-rich, that dream is about to become a reality.

Newsbud’s pre-launch website will be live soon at Newsbud.com. Mark your calendars for Sunday, February 14, Valentine’s Day, when we will launch our Kickstarter campaign with a live-streaming telethon!

*We are asking those of you who support this one-of-a-kind media project to come and join us. Please add yourself, and your voice, to our group list here. They have rendered we the people irrelevant. Together we are going to make them irrelevant!

NEWSBUD- Where Media Integrity Matters: Join Our Campaign for a 100% People Funded Media

Dear Friends & Supporters,

We’re back! Your incredible support and generous pledges during our last Kickstarter campaign have encouraged us to try another time.

Today is the day. It’s the first day of our new campaign, and we need you to help again. We have 45 days to raise $150,000, and we know we can do it with your help! Make a pledge, subscribe to Newsbud, put the word out by forwarding this link to others. And please take action as soon as possible—the first three to four days of the campaign will be the most critical to our success.

Now is the time to stand up for your right to be informed and help create a news and multimedia network unlike anything else online, in print, or on TV. Newsbud will produce original stories, investigative reports, video-podcasts, editorials, and discussion forums, and it will be a real independent alternative because it will be 100% people funded.

As part of our new strategy, we are running four Kickstarter campaigns over an 18-month period and a simultaneous subscription drive. With each successful Kickstarter campaign and subscription effort, we’ll launch additional programs and content and bring in more staff. At the end of Phase 4, Newsbud will be the fully operational, truly independent, 100% people-funded news sources we’ve all been waiting for. The great thing about this new approach: we’ll begin delivering articles and programs in early June so everyone can see the value of what we’re doing and the quality of our work before the campaign is even over!

Without you, we cannot achieve our dream of a media outlet that is nonpartisan and accountable only to its viewers and to the truth. Make a donation, subscribe, and activate others by sharing this email. They have rendered we the people irrelevant; together, we will make them irrelevant!

Sincerely,

Sibel Edmonds

A Message from Sibel Edmonds- Founder, Newsbud:

Welcome to our main page and threads for everything Newsbud! Starting today we’ll be collectively (yes, that means YOU!) campaigning to make Newsbud, a 100% people funded, independent, nonpartisan, online news source, a reality. I want you to pay special attention to 100% People Funded and what it means, thus, the importance of your role and participation in making this one-of-a-kind media platform come true. Solely people-funded media means no corporate advertisement gunk. It means no marketing gimmicks imbedded in the information presented. It means no strings attached to billionaire sugar daddies- be it Soros, Koch, Rockefellers or Carnegies. It means a media outlet only accountable to you-to we the people.  This means integrity. It means ethical and agenda-free journalism. It means making we the people relevant, and taking the 0.0001% out of the equation, thus making them irrelevant. And most importantly, it means that it is up to you and me, up to us the people, to do what it takes to create NEWSBUD-Where Media Integrity Matters.

Thomas Jefferson put it simply and eloquently: An informed citizenry is at the heart of a dynamic democracy.

For a decade and a half I’ve been fighting for the public’s right to know. An informed citizenry has been my life’s mission- From whistleblowing and years of leading congressional investigations, to forming the first and only National Security Whistleblowers Coalition, to establishing Boiling Frogs Post- a 100% viewers’ supported independent online information forum. Now, with your support, and in partnership with a network of nationally and internationally recognized journalists, producers, and analysts, we will be creating NEWSBUD, an independent news and multimedia network poised to redefine content-driven, online publishing through a 100% publicly funded platform: An empowering, publicly funded media network that is accountable only to its viewers and to the truth.

Please allow me to present a few important points and dates before ending this message:

  1. Please mark the following date on your schedule board, desktop calendar, smart phone, laptop and everywhere else: Sunday, February 14, 2016 (Valentine’s Day!). This is the day we will launch our Kickstarter Crowdfunding Campaign based on an ‘All or Nothing’ platform. Meaning, we’ll make Newsbud a reality if we raise our required minimum funding during the campaign, or everyone will get their pledge (donated money) back. Now please go to your gadgets and set the reminder function for this important date (If you’re using a music tune- make it an excited and happy one, and make it loud!).
  2. We have created a group e-mail list for all who support our mission for a 100% independent media with integrity. Our goal is to recruit at least 20,000 of you who are interested in this project and want to support it, whether via a monetary contribution or by helping us reach and activate others to join this campaign. You may have already signed up with us, but there is more we need you to do: please inform and encourage others you know, and invite them to join this solely people-powered media project by signing up. The direct link is here, and the sign up button is below.
  3. During the next 28 days we’ll be presenting you with a series of podcast and video shows, and commentaries on Newsbud and related details. Please do your share by sharing these presentations with others. Help us raise awareness by disseminating these programs through your social media network, e-mail groups and other blogs and forums.
  4. I am planning to record and publish my solo podcast series on Newsbud. What I want to do: take and answer your specific questions for each episode, rather than providing you with canned and scripted information. Yes, I want it to be participatory. So, please participate by submitting your questions and comments here

Without you, we cannot build the independent news source that we the people deserve. We can only do that when we are 100% publicly supported, and that means we need you, your voice, and your commitment to our cause. Don’t let the 1% render you powerless- Empower yourself with NEWSBUD-People Powered Media where integrity matters.

Thank You All,

Sibel Edmonds

NEWSBUD- Where Media Integrity Matters with Sibel Edmonds, Peter B. Collins & Pepe Escobar

100% People Powered Media- Now That’s Empowering!

Welcome to our first episode, announcing our new media project- NEWSBUD.COM. In this podcast episode broadcaster Peter B. Collins, investigative journalist Pepe Escobar and I discuss the launching of this exciting media project, and talk about what we mean by a solely people funded and backed media platform with resources to effectively counter the current propaganda and agenda ridden mainstream/pseudo-alternative operators. We talk about how people have been made irrelevant and rendered powerless by today’s well-calculated and designed media landscape, and the urgency in creating the only people-funded media platform to bring we the people back into the equation and render the 0.0001% irrelevant.

As Thomas Jefferson put it simply and eloquently, an informed citizenry is at the heart of a dynamic democracy. A core function of media is to act as the public’s independent watchdog- to keep governments, businesses and other agenda-driven organizations in check. Yet, today, our media is owned and ruled by these very same entities- Mega corporations and billionaires-funded organizations. Isn’t this letting the foxes guard the henhouse?

Are you tired of getting your news from sources funded by mega-corporations and billionaire dynasties? If yes, then come and join us in establishing NEWSBUD—100% people-funded: Where media integrity matters. For everyone who has been dreaming of a major independent media platform that’s free from corporate advertisements, partisan agendas, and a dependency on the ultra-rich, that dream is about to be a reality.

*We are asking those of you who support this one-of-a-kind media project to come and join us. Please add yourself, and your voice, to our group list here. They have rendered we the people irrelevant. Together we are going to make them irrelevant!

Processing Distortion with Peter B. Collins: Looking Back at Watergate

Peter B. Collins Presents Saint John Hunt

In this interview with the son of Watergate conspirator E. Howard Hunt, we get a new angle on the scandal that brought down Nixon. Howard Hunt was a CIA agent who participated in the Bay of Pigs fiasco and the JFK assassination, and was recruited for the “plumbers” crew that broke into the Watergate headquarters of the Democratic National Committee. In a new book, “Saint” focuses on his mother’s role as the bag woman who distributed “hush money” from Nixon’s allies and was killed in a mysterious plane crash in 1972. We get some interesting new insights and anecdotes on the state crimes against democracy linked to Watergate.

*Saint John Hunt’s new book is Dorothy: The Murder of E. Howard Hunt’s Wife—Watergate’s Darkest Secret. More information and links to his music recordings are here.
