BFP Roundtable Video- Ron Paul & His Movement: Was He The Answer?

Sibel Edmonds, Guillermo Jimenez & Pearse Redmond on Ron Paul Movement, Rand Paul & Much More!

With the presidential election seemingly looming over everything in this episode we look back at Ron Paul and his movement, and ask the question: Was he the answer? The three of us break down how all of us got involved in the Ron Paul Revolution and libertarian politics. We discuss how the movement represented a different choice to politics than the rest of the mainstream. Pearse Redmond shakes things up by asking whether Ron Paul was really about change, or whether he was about shifting the alternative community back into the Republican Party. We also touch on the nefarious individuals involved in the campaign that may have played a part in derailing the message of Paul. Later we move on to Rand Paul and break down how he represents a near complete reversal of his father. As we round out the conversation we explore the libertarian movement as a whole and discuss the near absence of women with in it. We also touch on why there are so few women in the alt-media, and the abhorrent way that they are treated by a majority community.

BFP Roundtable Video- DOD Goes to Hollywood!

Pearse Redmond, Tom Secker & Prof. Matthew Alford on the Largest ever FOIA release from Pentagon's Entertainment Liaison Office"

In this episode Tom Secker and I are joined by Professor Matthew Alford for a discussion of the Department of Defense's' ever increasing relation with Hollywood cinema. We discuss the history and nature of the DOD's Hollywood Entertainment Liaison office, how this office has existed since the early 1900's and has had a tremendous influence on the creation of our cinema and culture, the current head of the DOD Entertainment Liaison Office, Phil Strubb, and how he has gone about expanding the scope and influence of the military's involvement in Hollywood films.

We later move on to a real bombshell - - a massive document dump that Tom and Matt received from the DOD Entertainment Liaison Office through an FOIA request. Representing the largest ever FOIA release of documents from the Pentagon's Hollywood office, these documents offer a rare glimpse into a persistent propaganda effort by the military. The three of us would also like to encourage everyone in the BFP community to look through these documents and let us know what you find. Tom, Matt and I each discovered different nuggets of information, so we would love to see what you find yourselves. Be sure to let us know in the comments section!

BFP Roundtable Video- Death & Rebirth: The End of Al Qaeda and Rise of ISIS”

Pearse Redmond, James Corbett & Christoph Germann on the evolution of ISIS and the possible end of Al Qaeda

On this episode we are joined by BFP contributors James Corbett and Christoph Germann for a discussion of the US Deep State's role in creating ISIS, its evolution, and the possible end of Al Qaeda. The three of us explore the idea of "moderate" Al Qaeda members speaking out against ISIS, and their attempts to save the dying Al Qaeda brand. We also discuss how ISIS has changed the rules of terrorism by ushering in a new level of violence that is devoid of any real political ideology, touching on the notion that they are merely a place holder for some other new form of jihadi movement yet to emerge, and then finish off the conversation by looking at recent geopolitical developments in Central Asia and how these nations are dealing with the threat that ISIS presents.

*We would like to thank James Corbett and Tom Secker for all of their help with the editing of this podcast.

US Government’s Soft Spot for World Leaders with Hidden Treasure Boxes

Your Secrets Are Safe with Us Until …

In May 2013 I wrote an article on USA-Installed global puppets listing their common characteristics and their similar treatment by their master pre and post installment, including their period of exile: Kyrgyzstan’s Maksim Bakiyev: Long Live Washington’s Exiled Kings! My lengthy commentary included three real-life examples: Pakistan’s Bhutto, Kyrgyzstan’s Bakiyev and Turkey’s Ciller.

The fugitive Bakiyev’s case involved corruption, fraud, embezzlement, money laundering and more. However, a U.S. criminal securities fraud case against him was dismissed mysteriously- without explanation. The man (and his $300+ million embezzled dollars) has been living quite happily in the UK. In my article I cited a very similar example involving Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Bhutto and her husband, with a net worth of nearly $2 billion nicely stashed and protected in Swiss and British banks. My list of examples also included the former Prime Minister of Turkey, Tansu Ciller, and her fugitive banker husband, and of course, millions of embezzled dollars protected in master nations.

Now, why am I revisiting this topic and my year-old article? Well, for several reasons:

First, it is to emphasize our empire-building nation’s consistency- We love installing puppets with a long list of criminal and corrupt qualifications. We do. Always have, and always will. It is a foremost required qualification for their candidacy.

Secondly, the cases in that article somewhat relate to the latest headline news being circulated by our loyal pro-empire media: US to Target Putin's Personal $40 Billion Stash

…as The Times of London reports, perhaps the US has found a crucial pain point for Putin - a sanctions regime that would target Putin's personal wealth, which includes a reported $40 billion stashed in Swiss bank accounts.

The Times of London reported Friday that the U.S. was preparing a sanctions regime that would target Putin's personal wealth, which includes a reported $40 billion stashed in Swiss bank accounts.

You see, I was wondering when the US was going to play ‘that’ card. Of course, it was not news to me. In fact, I’ve known about the card since 2002. Let me present to you a brief segment from our latest BFP Round Table episode which was filmed nine days before this supposed earth-shattering headline news:

Of course my information was limited to what I had gathered in early 2002, when Putin’s wealth stashed in Cypriot Banks was estimated at around $300-$500 million. Nonetheless, I knew that they had the card, and I was wondering when they were going to play it.

While working for the FBI I quickly found out one of the game rules that all FBI analysts, agents and language specialists who deal with counterintelligence (Monitoring of Foreign Operations & Communications) inevitably learn: The FBI subserviently has to share all pertinent counterintelligence findings with the US State Department (thus, the CIA) and the White House Security Council. They have to. They are forced to. And they do. It is a one way game, because the State Department (read that: the CIA) does not share any intelligence pertinent to any FBI investigation or operation. They never did.

Now, back to our topic: gathering juicy and usable information for our empire-building nation. We know about the NSA snooping on world leaders. Finding out about intelligence and diplomatic apparatus is one reason for these snooping operations. Another major reason is pure & simple: personal dirt for blackmail purposes, when and if the need arises. Does the French Prime Minister enjoy little boys? If so, wonderful. Let’s put that in our basket, and the next time the man dares opposing something during a United Nation’s vote we’ll bring it down upon him like a ton of bricks. Does China’s Secretary of Commerce have a nice stash in Canada? Great, we’ll certainly use that during our next round of negotiations.

It is very simple, and equally applicable to dirt collected via FBI’s counterintelligence operations. We collected dirt on many world leaders and dignitaries. For the FBI’s purposes they were useless and worthless. On the other hand, some of the garbage info we collected were greatly valued and appreciated by those above the FBI: The State Department and the CIA. The movers and shakers of our empire-building apparatus have a very soft spot for dirt like that. Dirt like that can be used dirtily and strategically. Sometimes to place soft pressure. Other times to destroy and bring down an entire administration or world leader.

So which one is the objective in this recent headline news on Vladimir Putin of Russia so very strategically timed? My guess: It is to give a little nudge - soft pressure. The details and documentation are missing, thus making it mild pressure signaling what may follow if … Also, the information is intentionally incomplete, with no mention of a mother-load treasure chest in Cypriot Banks. Our empire-building establishment actually likes Putin. They wouldn’t want to see him brought down by some real nationalists in Russia. Better to have a dog they know and are used to than an unpredictable one they don’t know much about. And they know how far just this little soft signal can go to relay the intended message: Imagine what the real exposé would do to you?The ultra-nationalist communists would have a field day with that, wouldn’t they?

The next few days are going to be very interesting. What will Putin’s response be, if any? My guess, the empire’s strategy will be: not much follow up after this initial headline creating tidbit if the message/signal is received and acknowledged. After all, the purpose is soft pressure. But then again, I could be wrong. The world, even though to a certain extent predictable, still remains largely unpredictable and full of surprises. Wouldn’t you say so?

BFP Roundtable Video 5– Our Takes on NATO, Russia, Turkey & the “New Cold War”

In this edition of the BFP Roundtable, Peter B. Collins, Guillermo Jimenez, James Corbett and Sibel Edmonds discuss the latest moves in the formation of a so-called "new cold war" between NATO and Russia. We also tackle Seymour Hersh and his recent article in the London Review of Books examining Turkish involvement in the Syrian chemical weapons attack in Ghouta last year.

Turkey’s Pro-Western Imperialism Puppets Accuse Turkish People of Being “Conspiracy Theorists”

Western Influenced & Directed Regime Change Operations are Deemed as a “Conspiracy Theory”

I just finished reading a ridiculous hit piece published at Eurasia.Net accusing the Turkish people of being conspiracy theorists for believing that the imperial US and EU are engaged in schemes towards regime change around the world. According to the article and its sources, one must be ignorant, uninformed, uneducated and a big time conspiracy theorist in order to believe that the US-EU are engaged in political manipulations and regime change operations around the world.

Here is one of the article sources attributing the Turkish people’s distrust of the West to their ignorance, paranoia and conspiracy mindedness:

“Turks love it,” argued Cengiz Aktar, a senior scholar at Sabanci University’s Istanbul Policy Forum, “because they don’t know the world. Turks are very much monolingual. They don’t read newspapers much. They don’t know what the world thinks about them. So, when you don’t know about it, you fear or you invent theories. The majority of Turks love these kind of stories.”

You see, there is no mention of history such as the US-delivered military coup in Turkey or of the US-backed and directed Mullah named Fethullah Gulen. According to the authors of the article and their agenda-driven sources, the latest US-EU produced regime change operations around the world, such as in Libya, Egypt, Syria, Ukraine, and now in Venezuela, never happened! Seriously!

Contrary to what they claim, Turkish people are extremely involved in political developments. The ignoramus source claims that most Turkish people don’t read newspapers. I tell you what: if they were to survey and compare the number of critical newspaper readers in Turkey with those here in the United States, the ratio would be something like: Turkey: 75%, USA: 20%.

The propaganda source also accuses Turks of being monolingual, thus, ignorant. Are you kidding me? Again, if you were to compare the percentage of Turks fluent in two or more languages with those here in the United States, you’d be asking this guy what he’s high on!

All right, it gets even more bizarre. The authors and their sources engage in this self-fulfilling prophesy to make a point that the Turkish people’s conspiracy theories on Western manipulation of their politics has resulted in a decrease of investment and financial contributions by the West in the country:

Turkey also could be paying an economic cost for the conspiracy theories. “The problem is that the foreign investors are just laughing at this and Turkey is going through a very serious test of creditability,” analyst Aktar said.

Turkey’s net foreign-direct investment (FDI) of $9.6 billion is just over half its level in 2009, The Financial Times reported on February 13.

Okay, let me explain the perverse logic (or actually, lack of logic) here. What is one of the first guns brought out by Western Imperialists when they are faced with a foreign government that is refusing to bow and submit? Right: money guns. Whether it is bribery via IMF, World Bank or military aid, or, strategically (with agenda) made investments, money is one of the first vehicles used to destabilize a government or a regime when the purpose is regime change. So what happens when the Turkish PM flexes his muscles and starts showing an independent streak? Of course: you get US and its European allies showing their displeasure and pressurizing via withdrawing their money: foreign investments in the country, IMF loans, military and humanitarian aid, etc.

Now, Turkish people who read and pay attention to the news and developments around them, Turkish people who observe and witness how governments are being brought down right next to them in their own backyard, Turkish people who have a long experience of Western operations on their soil are called conspiracy theorists and ignorant for believing that the current state of affairs in their nation is largely due to Western-Scripted plots. And to prove the point, the author and his idiotic sources are pointing to Western players withdrawing their money from Turkey and pressuring the country financially!

I totally understand our media here in the United States concocting propaganda filled and false news and analyses. In fact, if you pay attention to the line of reasoning (or lack of), labeling, marginalization and insults in this article, you see solid parallels with those written on 9/11 and civil liberties activists, real government whistleblowers or those who have dared to run as independent candidates without the establishment’s backing. What I don’t understand is the sources in Turkey who have willingly played into the hands of the operatives and joined the imperialist choir in portraying and accusing the Turkish people and their vigilance as being ignorant and being conspiracy theorists. For those of you in Turkey: please find these sources and demand some explanation and accountability.

Getting Your History from Hollywood

Imagine a documentary film about the Holocaust which makes no mention of Nazi Germany.

Imagine a documentary film about the 1965-66 slaughter of as many as a million “communists” in Indonesia which makes no mention of the key role in the killing played by the United States.

But there’s no need to imagine it. It’s been made, and was released this past summer. It’s called “The Act of Killing” and makes no mention of the American role. Two articles in the Washington Post about the film made no such mention either. The Indonesian massacre, along with the jailing without trial of about a million others and the widespread use of torture and rape, ranks as one of the great crimes of the twentieth century and is certainly well known amongst those with at least a modest interest in modern history.

Here’s an email I sent to the Washington Post writer who reviewed the film:

“The fact that you can write about this historical event and not mention a word about the US government role is a sad commentary on your intellect and social conscience. If the film itself omits any serious mention of the US role, that is a condemnation of the filmmaker, and of you for not pointing this out. So the ignorance and brainwashing of the American people about their country’s foreign policy (i.e., holocaust) continues decade after decade, thanks to media people like Mr. Oppenheimer [one of the filmmakers] and yourself.”

The Post reviewer, rather than being offended by my intemperate language, was actually taken with what I said and she asked me to send her an article outlining the US role in Indonesia, which she would try to get published in the Post as an op-ed. I did so and she wrote me that she very much appreciated what I had sent her. But – as I was pretty sure would happen – the Post did not print what I wrote. So this incident may have had the sole saving grace of enlightening a Washington Post writer about the journalistic standards and politics of her own newspaper.

And now, just out, we have the film “Long Walk to Freedom” based on Nelson Mandela’s 1994 autobiography of the same name. The heroic Mandela spent close to 28 years in prison at the hands of the apartheid South African government. His arrest and imprisonment were the direct result of a CIA operation. But the film makes no mention of the role played by the CIA or any other agency of the United States.

In fairness to the makers of the film, Mandela himself, in his book, declined to accuse the CIA for his imprisonment, writing: “The story has never been confirmed and I have never seen any reliable evidence as to the truth of it.”

Well, Mr. Mandela and the filmmaker should read what I wrote and documented on the subject some years after Mandela’s book came out, in my own book: Rogue State: A Guide to the World’s Only Superpower (2000). It’s not quite a “smoking gun”, but I think it convinces almost all readers that what happened in South Africa in 1962 was another of the CIA operations we’ve all come to know and love. And almost all my sources were available to Mandela at the time he wrote his autobiography. There has been speculation about what finally led to Mandela’s release from prison; perhaps a deal was made concerning his post-prison behavior.

From a purely educational point of view, seeing films such as the two discussed here may well be worse than not exposing your mind at all to any pop culture treatment of American history or foreign policy.

Obama with Israel and Against the World

A Profound Gap Between the Highly Militarized State and US Public Opinion

As President Obama announces plans for another war, adding Syria to the recent and ongoing wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Yemen and elsewhere, a profound gap has emerged between the highly militarized state and US public opinion.

A Reuters/IPSOS poll taken August 19-23 (2013) revealed that 60 percent of Americans surveyed were against the United States intervening in Syria, while 9 percent said President Obama should act. Even when the question was ‘loaded’ to include Obama’s bogus and unsubstantiated claim that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces ‘used nerve gas to massacre civilians’, almost twice as many Americans oppose US military intervention (46 percent to 25 percent). In panic several pro-Administration media outlets hastily conducted new polls to try to’ improve the results’ in ‘favor’ of the White House desire to attack Syria. [Read more...]

Peter B. Collins Presents Norman Solomon

Here's the first episode of our new podcast series, Processing Distortion, hosted by Peter B. Collins.  Author/activist Norman Solomon talks about the spin-up to a probable US military assault on Syria, and the role of the media.  Solomon wrote the book War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us Into War, and compares the current script to the one used to justify the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and earlier misadventures.  We discuss the reporting in the alleged use of chemical weapons near Damascus on August 21, and the strong possibility that they were not deployed by the Syrian army.  We talk about the potential retaliation from a US strike, and that polls show very strong opposition.  We cover the recent embassy shutdowns, used to justify NSA spying programs and Solomon talks about the importance of whistleblowers like Ed Snowden and Chelsea Manning.

*Solomon helped lead recent protests against the votes of Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Mike Thompson in opposition to the Amash amendment, which proposed to de-fund NSA's telephone record collection programs--and was narrowly defeated.  We mention recent calls by Dennis Kucinich and Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ) to (respectively) abolish the NSA and repeal the Patriot Act and FISA 2008 law.

New York Times Opposes Palestinian Self-Determination

NYTLongstanding NYT articles, op-eds, and editorials are notoriously one-sided for Israel. Palestinian rights don't matter, only Jewish ones.

Life in Occupied Palestine harshness goes largely unreported. Crimes of war and against humanity are ignored. An earlier  If Americans Knew report explained "highly disturbing patterns" of distorted, one-sided coverage.

Little changed from then to now. In February 2012, Jodi Rudoren became Times Jerusalem bureau chief. Like earlier ones, she's Jewish. A previous article quoted Alison Weir asking "(w)ho is Jodi Rudoren?"

Previously she reported on domestic issues. It's unclear what she knows about Israel/Palestine. She admits having little regional knowledge. She hopes to be a fast learner. Her marching orders are clear. [Read more...]

The EyeOpener- Just Be Evil: The Unauthorized History of Google

BFP Video
Google Inc. is back in the news this week, with a fresh round of headlines about the search giant and government censorship. Ironically--though perhaps not surprisingly for the corporate media--the stories are not about Google's admitted but classified relationship with government agencies like the NSA, though. Instead, they portray the internet company as a protagonist sticking up for users' privacy rights against governments that are increasingly interested in blocking, scrubbing or banning links, search results, and online videos that those governments want to suppress.

As a PR exercise, Google's latest report is brilliantly executed and timed, deflecting some of the negative press that the company has received in recent weeks over the ongoing Street View debacle, even as it allows news outlets to portray the company as a valiant defender of users' privacy against increasingly invasive governments.

In this episode of our EyeOpener Report James Corbett presents Google’s past, its shareholders, its own repeated violations and abuses of users' privacy, its executives' personal philosophies and the unsettling statements that they have made about the very concept of privacy time and again over the years.

BFP Exclusive: NATO Member Turkey to Train Libya’s New Police Force

Harvesting the Fruits of “Regime Change” in Libya

RegimeIn the last few decades one never-changing modus operandi in our imperial pursuits and operations overseas has been the formation, financing, training, control and domination of our target countries’ military force. Egypt, Morocco, Kuwait, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia ... whether here right in our backyard under joint Pentagon and military industrial complex mega corporations or abroad, through our tentacles-NATO member nations, we’ve always ensured holding the most important string in ruling and managing our overseas puppetries- their military. Because, admit it, the figure-head dictators come and go; rise and fall; are made and destroyed, easily and frequently. On the other hand, their ruling military elite are more of a constant. Think Egypt: ‘Bye-bye Mubarak, stay put military regime.’ However, all that seems to be changing. We are getting savvier, more ambitious and far greedier. We want more: more control. Thus, welcome our new extended imperial sphere: Police Force a la USA.

According to the latest news, of course not covered by US media, our NATO Member Turkey will be training the new Libyan Police Force. Let’s read this extremely important new development with even more important implications [All Emphasis Mine]: [Read more...]
