DisInfoWars with Tom Secker: False Flag Operations in WW2

Continuing our exploration into the origins and development of false flag operations, this week we look at World War 2 and the British Double Cross System. Run by an Oxford academic, this system was set up to detect Nazi agents as they landed in Britain and turn them into double agents working for the British. To help maintain the cover the Special Operations Executive carried out false flag sabotage attacks, to give the appearance that the agents were still loyal to the Nazis and carrying out their missions. Using MI5 documents from the period this episode examines how senior security service officials discussed how these bombings caused a useful 'stimulation of security consciousness' which in turn caused an 'increase in security', just like the Gladio operations that came in the following decades.

DisInfoWars with Tom Secker: The Ireland-7/7 Connection

The War on Terror in Ireland never truly ended; it simply evolved into a new, updated and more sophisticated War on Terror. In this episode I look at the connections between the black operations being run by the British deep state in Northern Ireland and the 7/7 London bombings of 2005. I offer the view that 7/7 was a 'pure false flag' and focus in on two figures - Martin McDaid, a former special forces commando who ran a radical Islamic bookshop, and Samantha Lewthwaite, who was the wife of the one of the alleged suicide bombers. Both of these people were intimately involved in the 7/7 backstory, and both have the profiles and biographies of agents working for MI5. I analyze the 'intelligence failures' around McDaid and explore whether his and Lewthwaite's mission was to manipulate the four men into a position where they could be blamed for an atrocity that they did not commit.

DisInfoWars with Tom Secker- Institutional Secrecy

Following on from last week's show I look at how the intelligence services who were causing mayhem in Northern Ireland were protected by a culture of institutional secrecy in the British government. Via a little-known government file that was declassified in 2009 I tell the story of government policy on avowing the existence of the security services.

This episode focuses in on the late 1970s when a major shift in that policy - admitting MI6's existence after 30 years of denial - was contemplated by the Prime Minister. The tale of how this shift was averted involves the Cabinet Secretary Sir John Hunt and a woman who would herself soon be Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. By reconstructing the timeline of events I offer a different view of how this potentially major shift in policy was diverted, which resulted in the existence of MI6 not being officially admitted until 1994.

DisInfoWars with Tom Secker- The Troubles

The War on Terror in Ireland lasted 30 years and killed thousands. In many ways it was the operational prototype for the modern War on Terror, and can be considered part of Operation Gladio. In this episode I explore The Troubles, beginning with the background of the struggle for Irish independence going back over a century. I outline how the struggle has always gone through its peaceful, political phases and its revolutionary violent phases. In every violent phase the British deep state has responded by enhancing the power of the security services.

I pick up the story in some detail in the 1970s, when the British Military Reconnaissance Force (MRF), an intelligence unit, recruited, trained, equipped and radicalized Loyalist paramilitaries to fight against the Republicans. Meanwhile, everyone and his son was infiltrating the Irish Republican Army (IRA), who were being quite openly funded by Irish Americans. I look at the techniques of the 'own goal', a type of disguised bombing, and the 'OOB' or 'Out of Bounds' broadcast, a means for protecting black operations. I round off by briefly explaining the case of Patrick Finucane, a human rights lawyer murdered in collusion with the British state.

DisInfoWars with Tom Secker- How the Cold War became the War on Terror

This week I present a mini-documentary on the rise of the neocons in the 1970s and how they turned Cold War paranoia into War on Terror paranoia. I look at the people and organisations involved: Henry Jackson and the Coalition for a Democratic Majority, Richard Pipes and Team B, the reformed Committee on the Present Danger and how this all ties in with the Jerusalem Conference on International Terrorism in 1979. After the conference, once the neocons had regained control of the White House, the CIA fully committed to the new 'threat from international terrorism' and began cooking the books on the numbers. The mini-documentary rounds off by show how the legacy of the 1970s neocon network still exists, and persists in propagating the politics of paranoia.

DisInfoWars with Tom Secker- The Ideological Origins of the War on Terror

In the first of a three-part series I look into the 1979 Jerusalem Conference on International Terrorism, where the ideology of the current War on Terror was conceived. I focus in on Benjamin Netanyahu, who hosted the conference and later wrote a book on all the major speeches and discussion. I round off by tracing the legacy of this conference via the example of the original Mohammed cartoons controversy in 2005.

De-Manufacturing Consent- “The CIA Has Become the Phoenix”

Guillermo Jimenez Presents Douglas Valentine

On this edition of De-Manufacturing Consent: Guillermo is joined by CIA expert and author of The Phoenix Program, Douglas Valentine. Douglas explains how the CIA's proposed "sweeping organizational changes," as reported in the Washington Post, are the natural evolution of a process that began in 1967 with the Phoenix Program in Vietnam.

Douglas breaks down the current structure of the CIA, and why there is no longer a need for the "old-fashioned" directorates. We discuss how the agency has benefited from the politics of the "war on terror;" how it aims to controls the political, economic , and social movements of the planet, including within the United States; and its influence in the corporate and pseudo-alternative media. Lastly, we discuss how the counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency tactics born out of the CIA's Phoenix Program have expanded beyond the agency itself, and are now employed by virtually every law enforcement and intelligence agency in the country. Paramilitary units, like the CIA's death squads in Vietnam, Latin America, and Iraq, are now patrolling American streets under the guise of local "police departments." Now that the general public has finally taken notice, will it become another "normalized inconvenience," or will the American people do something about it?

Processing Distortion with Peter B. Collins: “Abu Zubaydah’s Lawyer on Gitmo & US Foreign Policy Failures”

Peter B. Collins Presents Brent Mickum

Attorney Brent Mickum represented 3 former Guantanamo prisoners, and continues to represent Abu Zubaydah, whose recently published diaries offer further proof that he was not an al Qaeda leader or involved in any attacks on the US. Mickum offers insight into the netherworld of American torture and detention through the stories of his released clients, and Zubaydah's dubious distinction as the best-known detainee who will be held indefinitely without charge or trial. In the second half of the interview, Mickum comments on a powerful essay he recently published, Reflections on American Power and Foreign Policy, a sweeping review of US foreign policy failures since World War II. We talk about blowback from years of covert operations, the outsized influence of Israel on American policy, and Mickum's 11-point indictment of our foreign policy up to and including the recent threats to attack Syria and Iran.

George Brent Mickum IV has a private law practice in Washington, DC and has been part of the Guantanamo defense bar for many years. He previously worked at the Federal Trade Commission, as a special assistant U.S. Attorney for the Department of Justice and as the senior investigative counsel for the Senate Special Committee on Investigations

The New Great Game Round Up- November 24, 2013

Military Aid for Central Asia, Let the Destabilization of China Begin, China-Russia Promote War on Terror & More!

*The Great Game Round-Up brings you the latest newsworthy developments regarding Central Asia and the Caucasus region. We document the struggle for influence, power, hegemony and profits in Central Asia and the Caucasus region between a U.S.-dominated NATO, its GCC proxies, Russia, China and other regional players.

Negotiations between Washington and Kabul about the presence of U.S. troops in Afghanistan after 2014 dragged on for quite some time with immunity for the Americans being the most contentious issue. This week, the corrupt Karzai government gave in and agreed that U.S. forces will be under the jurisdiction of the United States and not subject to Afghan courts. As seen in Iraq, denial of immunity is the only way to get the Americans to leave. Since this obstacle has been removed, Afghanistan will be occupied for several years to come: [Read more...]

Processing Distortion: “Trailing the FBI’s Boston Bombing Investigation”

Peter B. Collins Presents Russ Baker

Investigative journalist Russ Baker details a newly published update on the investigation into the official investigation of the Boston Marathon Bombing and the May 22 FBI killing of a friend of one of the Boston suspects. Baker reviews the anomalies of the Boston storyline and compares it with the JFK assassination 50 years ago. He notes that there is little evidence to connect the Tsarnaev brothers to the shooting of the MIT campus policeman, and that the connection of Tamerlan Tsarnaev to a triple murder in in 2011 rests on his friend Ibragim Todashev, who was killed by an FBI agent during interrogation in Orlando. Todashev's girlfriend was detained on an immigration hold, and was deported in mid-October--she says in retaliation for comments she made to the media.

Russ Baker is an award-winning investigative reporter who has broken scores of major stories over the course of more than two decades in journalism. Her has written for The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, The Nation, The New York Times, The Washington Post and other publications, and has served as a contributing editor to the Columbia Journalism Review. Baker received a 2005 Deadline Club award for his exclusive reporting on George W. Bush’s military record. He is the author of Family of Secrets: The Bush Dynasty, the Powerful Forces That Put It in the White House, and What Their Influence Means for America (Bloomsbury Press, 2009).

BFP Book Review: “America’s Deadliest Export: Democracy”- By William Blum

The Truth About U.S. Foreign Policy & Everything Else

By Mark Mondalek

BFPBookClubLogo

In January 2006, an audiotape from Osama bin Laden was released in which he recommended William Blum’s Rogue State as a useful book to read for Americans looking to better understand the “lies and oppression” perpetrated by George W. Bush on the rest of the world at the time.

Fast-forward to 2013: Barack Obama is President, bin Laden’s dead, and William Blum has a new book out. [Read more...]

BFP Book Review: “The Terror Factory: Inside the FBI’s Manufactured War on Terrorism’ by Trevor Aaronson”

How the FBI creates and facilitates phony terrorist plots so that the bureau can then claim victory in the war on terror.

By Mark Mondalek

BFPBookClubLogo

In his speech on national security on May 23, 2013, President Obama addressed the threat of terrorism perpetrated inside the United States, stating that “the best way to prevent violent extremism inspired by violent jihadists is to work with the Muslim American community, which has consistently rejected terrorism, to identify signs of radicalization, and partner with law enforcement when an individual is drifting towards violence.”

Trevor Aaronson, in his new book The Terror Factory: Inside the FBI’s Manufactured War on Terrorism (Ig Publishing, January 2013), gives a very contradicting assessment of what this partnership actually entails, one that the government––by the looks of things––has no plans on reigning in anytime soon.

Assembling together the research that was originally a part of his award-winning project about FBI counterterrorism operations for Mother Jones in September 2011, Aaronson poured through the court records of every terrorism-related prosecution in the United States in the ten years following 9/11 to amass a staggering list of 508 defendants considered to be terrorists by the U.S. government. Analyzing this data in accordance as to whether the defendant was targeted through the use of an FBI informant, caught in an FBI terrorism sting or encountered by an agent provocateur (an undercover government agent used to provoke the defendant into illegal activity), Aaronson determined that he “could count on one hand” the number of actual terrorists who posed a direct and immediate threat to the United States.
